I’ve found a handy way to keep tabs on new YouTube videos without constantly visiting individual channels (and without needing to subscribe).
By centralizing my Reddit, YouTube, and other RSS feeds in NetNewsWire, I save a ton of time getting the latest information all in one place.
If you want to see my other article about consuming Reddit RSS feeds, check out A Better Way to Consume Information: RSS Feeds. It also explains how to add the RSS feed URL in NetNewsWire.
How to Get YouTube Channel RSS Feeds
For YouTube, here’s how to do it:
- Go to the desired YouTube channel on Chrome.
- Right click and select “View Page Source”.
- Do a search for
channel_id=and you should find a link that contains the channel ID. - Add that URL in NetNewsWire. The format is:
https://www.youtube.com/feeds/videos.xml?channel_id=CHANNEL_ID
Replace CHANNEL_ID with the actual channel ID you found in the page source.
The Result
That’s it — now you’ll see that channel’s updates in your NetNewsWire feed and from there you can go straight to the YouTube app to see the content.
You can also make NetNewsWire notify you when there’s something new, so you never miss an upload from your favorite creators.
Enjoy!
